Holy Trinity School, established in 1833, holds the distinction of being the oldest school in Lorain County and one of the ten largest in the Diocese. Our rich history began when three families from Bavaria settled in Avon, Lorain County. The first Mass was celebrated on March 21, 1841, in the Schwartz family cabin. A year later, in 1844, the first church was constructed on Jaycox Road, accompanied by a cemetery. The parish school commenced in 1845, originally housed in a log cabin near the intersection of Schwartz and Nagel Roads.
The parish community flourished, leading to the construction of a wooden schoolhouse in 1860, which was subsequently replaced by a brick schoolhouse in 1873. The current church, located at Detroit and Nagel Roads, began construction in 1900 using sandstone from quarries in Amherst and Westlake under the guidance of Rev. Anthony B. Stuber. Completed in 1902, it included a rectory and a new cemetery west of the church.
In 1924, a tornado damaged the church and rectory, but the sanctuary remained untouched. During the repairs, a hall was built for Masses and parish events. The school was relocated to its current site on Nagel Road in 1925, with additional classrooms added in 1956. Further expansions in 2001 and 2005 introduced a library, offices, a new wing of classrooms, and a gym that also serves as the parish hall.
