Background & Interests: Hank is a certified therapy dog with the Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dog Organization. He is a five-year-old German Shepherd who has joined the Holy Trinity School community as the first therapy dog on site. His role brings numerous benefits to the students and staff, enhancing the school environment in various ways.
Research has shown that therapy dogs have cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and reading-related benefits for students. Cognitive benefits include stimulating memory, problem-solving, and game-playing skills, while social benefits revolve around encouraging positive interactions and responsibility. Hank also plays a key role in promoting emotional well-being by improving self-esteem, offering companionship, and alleviating anxiety.
One of Hank's most valuable contributions is in reading. Studies have shown that children who read to therapy dogs develop better literacy skills and gain confidence. The calm and non-judgmental presence of a therapy dog like Hank helps children feel more comfortable and motivated to read aloud. Hank’s comforting presence is a cherished part of the Holy Trinity School experience.
